To connect your phone to Claude Code, install the Claude Code Notifier app on your iPhone or Android phone and the free ccn command line tool on your computer, then pair them. Run ccn pair and scan the QR code it shows, or open the app at Computers > Add a computer and run ccn pair with the 6-digit code it shows. It works the same on Mac, Windows and Linux, and takes about a minute.

01What pairing gives you

Once a phone is paired, Claude Code can reach you when it needs you:

  • A "Claude has finished" push the moment a turn ends.
  • Permission requests you can allow once, allow for the session, or deny.
  • Questions you can answer by picking an option.
  • A follow-up instruction you can send right after Claude finishes.

Before you pair, ccn already shows desktop notifications on the computer for the same moments. Pairing adds the phone.

Claude Code Notifier is an independent tool made by TouchTap Ltd. It is not made by or affiliated with Anthropic. It works through Claude Code's hooks, so it covers every claude session in any terminal, including the terminals inside VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains IDEs.

02Before you start

You need:

  • Claude Code installed and working on the computer.
  • The Claude Code Notifier app on your phone, from the App Store or Google Play. If you scan the QR code first without the app, your phone offers the store for you.
  • A network connection on both devices.

The app is free to download and needs a subscription or a lifetime purchase to use, with a free trial on the yearly plan. See pricing.

03Two ways to pair

There are two routes. Both end in the same place, so pick whichever is easier.

RouteStart onBest when
QR codeThe computerThe computer's screen is in front of you
6-digit codeThe phoneYou are on a remote machine, over SSH, or the QR code will not scan

QR links and 6-digit codes both last 24 hours.

04Route 1: scan a QR code

On Mac or Linux

  1. Open a terminal and install ccn:
curl -fsSL https://claudecodenotifier.com/install.sh | sh

Or with Homebrew:

brew trust --formula touch-tap/tap/ccn && brew install touch-tap/tap/ccn
  1. Run ccn (or ccn pair). It installs the hooks if needed and prints a QR code and a link.
  2. Point your phone's camera at the QR code and open the link. If the app is installed, it opens and pairs. If not, the phone offers the App Store or Google Play first; install the app and the pairing carries on.
  3. The terminal confirms the phone is paired.

On Windows

  1. Open PowerShell and install ccn (Windows support is in beta):
irm https://claudecodenotifier.com/install.ps1 | iex
  1. Run ccn pair. PowerShell shows a QR code and a link.
  2. Scan it with your phone's camera, as above.
  3. PowerShell confirms the phone is paired.

With Node.js or as a plugin, on any OS

If you have Node.js, this installs and starts pairing in one go:

npx @touchtap/ccn

Or from inside Claude Code, install it as a plugin and run its setup command:

/plugin install ccn --marketplace touch-tap/ccn
/ccn:setup

05Route 2: type a 6-digit code

This route starts on the phone, which is handy when you cannot see the computer's screen well, or when Claude Code runs on a server you reach over SSH.

  1. Open the Claude Code Notifier app and go to Computers > Add a computer.
  2. The app shows a 6-digit code and the exact line to run for your operating system.
  3. Run that line on the computer. If ccn is already installed, it is simply:
ccn pair 482913

Use your own code in place of 482913.

Install and pair in one line

Every install line can take the code, so a fresh computer needs only one command.

On Mac or Linux:

curl -fsSL https://claudecodenotifier.com/install.sh | sh -s 482913

On Windows, in PowerShell:

irm https://claudecodenotifier.com/install.ps1 | iex; ccn pair 482913

As a Claude Code plugin, pass the code to the setup command: /ccn:setup 482913.

06Check that it works

Two commands confirm everything is in place:

ccn doctor # checks hooks, credentials, server connection and presence detection
ccn test # sends a test notification to your phone

Then try it for real. Start claude, give it a small task, and step away from the keyboard. When it finishes, your phone gets a push.

Note that ccn notices when you are at the computer. If you typed in the last 30 seconds, permission prompts and questions appear in the terminal as usual and the phone gets at most a note. Step away to see the phone take over.

07Pairing more than one device

  • Several computers, one phone. Repeat the steps on each computer. Your work Mac, home Linux box and Windows laptop can all reach the same phone. Running several Claude Code sessions explains how to tell them apart.
  • Several phones, one computer. Pair each phone with the same computer.
  • See or remove phones. ccn devices lists paired phones, and ccn devices revoke <name> removes one.

08Scripts and remote machines

ccn pair --no-wait prints the QR code and returns at once, which suits scripts and provisioning. On a server over SSH, the 6-digit route is usually simplest, since you type the code into the same SSH session you use for Claude Code. Notifications from Claude Code on a remote server over SSH covers the rest of that setup.

09If pairing does not work

  • The code was refused. Codes last 24 hours. Make a new one in the app, or use the QR route.
  • The QR code does not scan. Make the terminal window larger, or open the printed link on your phone instead.
  • ccn is not found after installing. Open a new terminal so your PATH updates.
  • Paired, but no push arrives. Run ccn doctor, then ccn test, and check that notifications are allowed for the app in your phone's settings.

The full list is in Claude Code notifications not working? A checklist.

10Not ready to pair yet?

That is fine. Desktop notifications work from the moment ccn is installed. Until a phone is paired, ccn occasionally suggests ccn pair. To stop the suggestions:

ccn config set pair_nudges off

11FAQ

Do I need an account to pair?

No. Claude Code Notifier has no accounts. Pairing links the computer and the phone without any sign-up. Notifications pass through an encrypted relay and are deleted within 48 hours. See the Privacy Policy.

How long does a pairing code last?

Both the 6-digit code from the app and the QR link from ccn pair last 24 hours. After that, make a new one.

Can I pair a computer that has no screen?

Yes. Use the 6-digit route: open Computers > Add a computer in the app and run ccn pair with the code on that machine, for example over SSH.

Does pairing change my Claude Code settings?

Installing ccn adds seven hook entries to ~/.claude/settings.json, leaves everything else alone and keeps a one-time backup beside it. Pairing itself only links the phone. ccn uninstall removes the hooks, pairings and local state.

How do I unpair a phone?

Run ccn devices to see the paired phones, then ccn devices revoke <name>. ccn forget also erases the computer from the server.
